My little master plan

Today, I totally sucked at piano… I just felt like I didn’t play anything clear enough, but nevertheless, I’m glad to be able to say after 2 weeks that I most likely will continue to play it.

A little wrap up of my musical history: I started to play keyboard at 6, then stopped at 8 years. Then I totally forgot it and picked it up at 15… and stopped at 17 (which means after 2 years again *haha*). Now, 2 years have passed again… and I have decided to teach the rest myself. Why am I doing this? Well, mainly because I have a piano at home. It costed my parents quite a lot of money, although it’s not a top-notch Steinway or Beckstein. It’s a black Petrof (one of the 125 line) and I love it to death. Since slightly good pianos are expensive per definition, it would have been a waste not to play on it.
(By the way, my mother wants to learn it as well… I guess they don’t want the piano to stand there unused when I’m gone.)

(1) I’m currently learning the pieces of this book which I actually like a lot. The pieces are getting more difficult pretty fast which is very, very good. I skipped the pieces no. 1-3, because I dislike them, and started with no. 4. Now I’m at no. 8, because, well, the first pieces are all pretty easy (which means I can play them more or less fluidly after the second try).
When I have finished this book (I wonder if I’ll be able to do it in the next 2 years), I might begin with the next book of this series. And perhaps I will play more pieces of the expressionism… I have always liked them *g*
(2) In case I have finished that, I want to begin with what I have always dreamt of… which is jazz piano *____* I find it highly interesting… but I’m only interested in improvisation, theory and difficult pieces, which is the reason why I want to learn classical music before jazz piano in order to progress the most quickly as possible once I start with it :]
(3) In the case you don’t know about it yet, but Pochi owns a cute little bass which I have fallen in love with already~ When he starts to study, he’ll be bringing his bass over as well of course, so that I will be able to practise on it too *hohoho!* I know that basses are heavy and big and everything, but I like them *g* The best thing is that he can teach me the basics X3
(4) Ever since I’ve watched the respective episode of Neon Genesis Evangelion *cough cough*, I’ve wanted to play cello. Why not violin? Well, there used to be a girl in my class who loved to brag about her violin skills (she did that very subtly, btw). That’s why, although I love the sound of violins, I never wanted to play them… until I discovered cellos <333 Cellos are modern, cool, have sex appeal (mainly because you have to spread your legs *hrr*) and imho a much more beautiful sound than violins.
A cello is expensive though (okay, it’s about the same price as a guitar, nothing compared to a piano), and cello lessons definitely cost too much! That’s why I’ll “only” be starting to learn when I earn my own money *g*

And now: Please feel free to recommend any websites and books to me! X-)

  1. wooo, do yourself a favor and play the bass >D
Besides the fact that everyone and their moms play the guitar, the bass is classier, everyone likes the bass player, its classier, you dont run into the risk of becoming an egocentric bundle of schmuckdom and you have the longer wood, duh. :D. Oh, and its bloody awesome to play your bass, naked, after you have showered, its very very satisfying. Really.

you should check some of those sites out, the first one has loads of lessons and tips.

In regards to point number 2:
Id love to be able to play jazz-piano as well…i saw this guy, Eldar, (www.eldarjazz.com) in concert a few months ago, and it was unbelievable…this guy is what, 19, and its scary how good he is…i admire those people’s ability to KNOW EXACTLY what the hell they are doing when they are playing at those insane speeds. Its mad. I wish i could improvise as well as that bass player…scary how fast some people can move their fingers

  2. Aww, thank you for supporting this idea! I also think that bass is really classy *hehe* Same as cello – everybody plays the violin while the cello sounds a lot more elegant, and it looks sexy *g*

Moving your fingers that quickly is similar to gymnastics and ballet – or languages: If you don’t start at say, 6-7 years, you can forget to master it. Last year, I have seen a musical performance of kindergarten and grade school kids in Berlin: 2 of them were playing the Pipa with an incredible speed – they looked like 6 years old. Who knows, if I’ll have kids, I’ll let them start with the Pipa at 4 years. That’ll make them gorgeous guitar players one day… *hrrr*

Oh, and another thing… you don’t know what you do. Sometimes you don’t even know which tone you’re playing – only your fingers or your body knows. (That’s cool, though, you can say that you “feel” the music *hehe*)

  3. haha i love the Pipa. My mom has that chinese friend of hers who is one of those irritatingly friendly people who nod to everything you say and never, never disagree with you, she plays the pipa.

    yes…she makes good pineapple pies…

*capitulates to japanese inserts from above*

  4. Who makes good pineapple pies? Me wants!

I think I know way too many of those friendly chinese people… sometimes I think I am one of them *haha*

    Sasa’s japanese lesson no.1:
Pantsu kudasai! – I want pantyshots please! (lit.: Pants please!)
Erojiji – alter perverser Sack (lit.: Perverted old man)
