In a sense, today is such a productive day

First of all, I opened my very first MyAnimeList group, ahaha.

Second, I have bought loads of groceries and lastly, I went through my parents’ room and robbed them of the pirated DVDs they bought years ago, harr harr.

This is what we have. As always, shows or movies I have not seen in bold:

  • A Beautiful Mind
  • A.I. – Artificial Intelligence
  • April Rhapsody (a TV series that both my parents liked!)
  • Beyond the Clouds (some weird thing, really)
  • Black Hawk Down
  • Broken Flowers
  • Cast Away
  • Chicago
  • Closer
  • Corpse Bride
  • Crazy/Beautiful
  • Dae Janggeum (in chinese of course, heh)
  • Eyes Wide Shut
  • Ghibli Collection
  • Gosford Park
  • House of Flying Daggers
  • Kill Bill 1 and 2
  • King and I, The (on the love story compilation, I doubt I will watch this though)
  • It happened one night (on the love story compilation)
  • Lavender Hill Mob, The (on the Audrey Hepburn compilation, although she has only a two minute appearance in the film, LOL)
  • Letter from an unknown woman
  • Léon – The Professional
  • Pianist, The
  • Pride and Prejudice
  • Red Shoes, The (on the love story compilation. Why, I wonder?)
  • Road Home, The
  • Roman Holiday (three times: a compilation with Audrey Hepburn films, a compilation of old love story movies and german one which was a give-away from “Vanity Fair”)
  • Sabrina (on the Audrey Hepburn compilation)
  • Serendipity
  • War and Peace (on the Audrey Hepburn compilation)
  • Waterloo Bridge (the 1940 version; of course, on the lovestory compilation)

The only remotely interesting thing I did not get was “Legally Blonde”. I used to like it but I doubt I’ll ever watch it again.
I actually still need to check if the DVDs are good and/or they are in a language that I can understand, haha. But, I can’t wait to watch the ones I have not seen, hohoho!

  1. I quite enjoyed House of Flying Daggers – not quite as good as Crouching Tiger… or Hero but marvellous eye candy. Those battles amongst the lush greenery, especially that bamboo forest scene and the showdown in the snow, might not be the height of art but they sure look impressive.

    Black Hawk Down is great in terms of drawing you into the action (Ridley Scott FTW!) but I found the size of the cast to be a bit offputting – it’s tough keeping track of who’s at points but again, it’s impressive to watch. Decent soundtrack too iirc.

  2. I have to admit that I have never watched Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon while everybody around me including my parents have watched and liked it. XD Actually I also am not a big fan of fighting scenes (except for Hero where it really looked good), not even in anime. But I actually am positive I will like House of Flying Daggers, and if it’s just for the style. :)

    Oh yes, I quite like Ridley Scott, but I will try not to have too high expectations for Black Hawk Down when I watch it.

  3. lmfao, the cast for “beyond the clouds” is totally random?

    “the road home” = massive weepy, so be careful?
    “letter from an unknown woman” = totally gorgeous and pretty, so, uh, watch it!

  4. “Beyond the Clouds” is such a weird film, isn’t it? Ahahaha. That makes me want to see it somehow.

    So you would recommend “Letter from an Unknown woman”, how surprising XD My parents have really liked it, I wonder why.

    I have been planning on watching more Zhang Yimou films anyways, and since we have “The Road Home” available, it’s just a matter of time until I watch it, I suppose.
    Other films by him I want to see are
    * Red Sorghum
    * Raise the Red Lantern
    * Not One Less, and
    * Happy Times
    Finally, I also want to see To chacun son cinema. This looks quite amazing O.o I like these short film anthologies so much, haha.
