Okay, the last movie you should fangirl about is Manderlay – but I have to admit that the movie had a great impact on me. I hated Grace during the whole movie (which was rather bad) because she was so blatantly naive and stupid to me. I think that’s mainly because the american “missionary work” is one of the most highly debated subjects nowadays… so it’s way too easy to see the parallels between the movie and, for instance, what happens in Iraq.
On the other hand, the movie had its great moments: How many funny scenes there were (unlike Dogville which actually wasn’t funny at all), how exactly everything fit together at the end… And especially Grace’s father is cool.
Notice the ending. There’s a lot to discover. 2 points precisely *g*
Broken Flowers
I think I would have liked “Dead Flowers”. In fact I remember first hearing about this movie under the name “Dead Flowers” and I liked it. But actually there’s no big difference.
There were funny scenes, but unfortunately the movie started off very well and became worse. The only later scene I liked was the one with the flower shop girl and how he sit besides his ex-girlfriend’s gravestone. It reminded me a lot of Horváth’s “Don Juan kommt aus dem Krieg”. The premise of the story sounds gorgeous: An old Don Juan, an absolutely likeable and hilarious friend, a great Sharon Stone (not to talk about her daughter called “Lolita” *hrr*). But the rest was blah and the movie was slightly boring. That’s why I feel like sleeping *uh oh*
Soundtrack-wise: God-like. I love the ethiopian music and I especially love “There is an end”.
Lost Highway
Uh-huh. How many people will kill me now if I say that I actually found this particular movie extremely boring? It’s easier to talk about what I liked about the movie:
1. Everything that was similar to Mulholland Drive. (Which means the parallels between part 1 and part 2.)
2. The soundtrack. Although I usually dislike Rammstein, it just fitted and sounded extremely well.
Considering these 2 points, I’m glad to have watched the movie nevertheless. ^^
Next movies I want to see: the malicious J-pop movie (aka Shimotsuma monogatari), No Man’s Land and Los lunes al sol.
Du fandest Broken Flowers langweilig? Ich hab’s ja fast schon geahnt. *g* Vorher werd ich mir auf jedenfall mal Coffee & Cigarrettes und Night on Earth anschaun.
Ich hab mir jetzt in den letzten Monaten schon sicher 15-mal überlegt, ob ich die Dogville-DVD kaufen soll (vor allem weil sie auch bei uns in Ö so schön billig ist), hab’s aber bisher nicht getan.
Kennst du “Blue Velvet” von Lynch? Ich war nach Mulholland Drive ein wenig von dem Film enttäuscht, obwohl er eigentlich gut war (bzw. es gab einige gute Szenen). Ich werde vermutlich auch alle anderen Lynch-Filme, die ich noch sehen werde, mit Mulholland Drive vergleichen. ^^;
Shimotsuma monogatari klingt (von der ergoogelten Beschreibung jetzt) witzig, kenne ihn aber nicht näher.
No Man’s Land wirkt furchtbar interessant. Das ist schon länger auf meiner “Liste”. XD
Und Los Lunes al sol sowieso. *___* Zwar kauf ich mir zuerst noch Y tu mamá también und einen Almodóvar-Film, aber danach kommt der. XD
Hast Du Broken Flowers jetzt eigentlich gesehen oder nicht? XD Wenn nein, wieso hast Du’s geahnt? Wie auch immer: Ich würde Dir Night on Earth empfehlen. Man vergleicht dann später alle Filme von ihm mit Night on Earth, aber es ist einfach sein Meisterwerk, finde ich. Coffee & Cigarettes hat mir persönlich allerdings auch verdammt gut gefallen.
Dogville lohnt sich, finde ich. Ich weiß ja nicht, wie die DVD so ist, aber ich liebe diesen Film! (Vielleicht wartest Du, bis eines Tages eine Box für die Trilogie rauskommt, oder so :] Die ersten 2 Filme passen schon mal sehr gut zusammen.)
Blue m Typen, der öfters Gothic Lolita-Essays für die Gothic & Lolita Bible schreibt und sich dazu in Mädchenklamotten darin ablichten lässt.) Deshalb glaube ich nicht, dass Du mit dem Unsinn was anfangen kannst XXXD
Uh, Ich hab’ von den genannten Filmen nur Lost Highway gesehen, und besonders “unterhaltsam” im eigentlichen Sinne ist der Film nicht. Wenn der aber genug Interesse wecken konnte ist die Spekulation um das was überhaupt vor sich gegangen ist die echte Unterhaltung daran. Wie’n großes Rätsel. Problem bei Lynch ist aber, dass es oft irgendwie keine 100%ig zufriedenstellende Lösung gibt. Schrecklich. Aber auch faszinierend schön. XD
Broken Flowers hab ich nicht gesehn. ^^ Night on Earth wird aber noch diesen Monat gekauft. Coffee & Cigarettes möcht ich (mal die Tatsache, dass es ein Jarmusch-Film ist, weggelassen) vor allem sehn, weil du in “unseren alten” Mails davon so geschwärmt hast. XD
Ich liebe Almodóvars Filme. Bisher hab ich… 3 gesehn. Alles über meine Mutter, Sprich mit ihr und La Mala Educacíon. In der Reihenfolge sind es auch meine Lieblinge, wobei ich La Mala Educacíon auch gut fand. (siehe Freiboard *g*) Demnächst kommt ja Volver raus! *___* (Und Babel! Und Marie-Antoinette!)
Ich hab mir gestern noch einen Trailer zu Shimotsuma Monogatari angesehen und den fand ich recht witzig.
Broken Flowers: I thought it was entertaining. I liked how Jarmush garnished all the different Wives with so much detail…the music was fun, like in Dead Man (the only other Jarmush film ive seen), and Bill Murray’s Performance was enjoyable as always. It didnt exactly woo me either, but I had a good time watching it :)
Lost Highway: Ugh, it kinda gave me headaches…I think Lynch did a good job of making the settings of the film utterly uncomfortable, the lighting so annoying at times that watching it resembled some nightmares I had myself. Isnt this film supposed to be some kind of…nightmare experience anyways? I couldnt care less about the puzzle aspects , they just annoyed the hell out of me, haha. It was uncomfortable to watch, not really enjoyable, but it succeeded in delivering quite an authentic “nightmare feeling”
Oh, and the mystery man actually scared the shit out of me, hahaha the guy with the white skin and the handphone? Spoookay
