Ohoho, I finally managed to create a little poll. Considering that I have been blogging for such a long time, it’s quite strange to me that this actually is a first O.o
So, after buying so many DVDs recently (and there is more to come), I have been thinking about the no.1 question of all collectors: how to sort my DVDs on my shelf. This kind of reminded me of the protagonist of “High Fidelity” who re-ordered his whole vinyl collection every time something dramatic happens in his life. Finally, I decided to sort them alphabetically by the original title.

My system is nearly nonexistent: on my top shelf I have my favourite movies, the shelf below is filled with boxes (for aesthetic merit I think), below I have all my soundtrack CDs and below that are all other films arranged randomly.

Hm, “La Mala Educacion” is on the right of “Hable con ella” and “Dogville” is right besides “Dancer in the Dark”. My anime used to have an own space too, but I think that vanished somewhen.
Conclusion: Completely random.
I don’t even know if I want to have a system.

I voted “alphabetically by original title”, Pixel-pyon voted “somewhat random”, Prog most likely “completely random”, Shii most likely “completely random” as well… so who are the two anonymous people who voted the other “somewhat random” and “alphabetically by title of the DVD”? XD Polls are so much fun, I am so happy, hahaha.
I´d sort them by random and my own thoughts. Like now I have Gundam Seed, Hellsing and DNA in that order, with lots of other stuff behind them.
If I can I sort them in order. But since I have so much I sort them random, all stuff getting their own style.
With my games I sort them in genre. With DVDs of the same genre I sort them by how much I liked them, the ones I like are in front of the ones I didn´t like.
It´s hell to explain. I just sort them randomly :p
Voted last night, but forgot the write-up…
I start out by “organizing” my DVDs by re-watch value. (Under the bed, near the desktop, in the living room) Next thing you know, you’ll find “High Fidelity” in “Amelie” DVD casing and “Amelie” DVD is nowhere to be found…

@manga: I see. You could easily have voted “thematically” too, at least for your games, haha. I think a specific sorting order that looks random is the greatest, but I think I will stick with my alphabetical system so far.
@MrMayat: Re-watch value is great – I think Pixel-pyon sorts them somewhat by ranking as well. I could do that, but I think it’s way too difficult to rank films for me. Also, if any day, my collection actually grows larger, I want to be able to immediately find something – and I would be so sad if a DVD disappeared O.o
I hope you’ll find your Amelie DVD one day, in case that was not a joke. The movie is great after all.
